Multipart Supply Chain Solutions is a supply chain management specialist dedicated to providing companies with a complete parts and components logistics service solution. They supply spare parts and components to customers across the automotive, defence and utility sectors in the UK and Ireland.
Multipart opened a 268,000sq ft. distribution centre in Chorley, Lancashire at the cost of £20million. In the planning stages of the facility Multipart had a clear goal to achieve a world class picking system for the critical ‘Small Parts’ area of the distribution centre. As a result Multipart spent a considerable period of time looking at a variety of suppliers to find the right solution and importantly the right partner to deliver this vision; they chose Industore.

The Challenge
The challenge for both Multipart and Industore was to design and implement a world class order picking system that was not only going to increase picking speed and picking accuracy across the board, but also to deliver a system that would be robust and reliable in order to cope with increased workload anticipated by Multipart.
The Solution
Industore delivered 20 industry leading Hänel Lean-Lifts at a height of 12m grouped together into six separate activity zones; each zone is serviced by a computer controlled conveyor system. Bespoke Industore software is fully integrated with Multipart's ERP system and controls the functions of picking, replenishment and perpetual inventory, passing commands to the conveyor in order to control transactions associated with tote movements in and out of the zones.
The Industore software also organises and co-ordinates picks into totes within the zones and controls all associated paperwork. Each Hänel Lean-Lift was supplied with a label printer to attach labels to picked parts; each label includes details such as customer, route, part description and order number. Upon pick completion, the Industore software automatically notifies Multipart's ERP system to initiate outbound process transactions (despatch paperwork and invoicing).
